Places to visit: Creative Fibre Themed Market day, Canberra

I love hearing about markets that support local artists! There is nothing more special then meeting a designer and get to know the personal behind the brand that you know or discovering and getting inspired by a new one.
If you live or regularly visit Canberra, you probably heard about Old Depot Markets that are on every Sunday. In aabout 3 weeks, Canberra will see another colourful event - Creative Fibre Themed Market day that will take place on 15th of July. For the ninth year running the event is back, featuring around thirty extra stallholders, including some of the region’s best textile artists who come especially to exhibit at the event.  It’s a recognised must-do for anyone with an interest in textile arts!

That's how Diane Hinds, Old Depot Markets manager, describes the market:
“Creative Fibre brings together artists who create amazing textile wares — from knitted garments and embroidery, to hand dyed fabrics and yarns — all to the highest standards. These highly skilled artists spin, dye and felt wool, creating everything by hand.  It’s a great opportunity to stock up on gorgeous tea pot covers, striking accessories and clothing, one-of-a-kind screen prints, and handcrafted home wares”.

This year, stallholder Ro Cook plans to steal the show with her hand-printed textiles.  Ro has many years of experience under her belt and has perfected her own unique art of textiles and screen printing.  Her love for textiles and extraordinary limited edition designs has led to the success of her textile design business Rokoco. I only recently discovered Ro's work and was fascinated by the textiles!

Throughout the day, visitors to the Creative Fibre event will have the opportunity to speak to textile artists like Ro, and learn about the methods behind their creations. Students from the ANU School of Textiles will also be showcasing their work and providing information about upcoming courses.

Sounds to me like a perfect market for a girly day out, looking for treasures and creations to inspire!

Mark 15th of July in your calendar, go to visit this wonderful market and tell me what you think!

Make an owl!

The getting-ready-for-the-market month is officially on! I've got so many new things that I want to make but as I've had a number of enquiries about the owl kits, that's what I'll be doing first. So kits are now available to pre-order. Some colours are in limited supply so be quick!

Drop me an email with the preferred colour and fabric and I'll put one aside.

If you've got plenty of felt and fabric at home, you can download a free pattern and instructions here.

Happy Crafting!

back from Handmade market!

This time Canberra welcomed us will lovely cool and sunny weather. It was nice to be outside as well as inside with great stalls and great atmosphere of the Handmade market.
I took a few pictures while setting up as after doors were open so many people kept coming in....

On my way to say hi to Jennie I couldn't go pass the cupcake stall and who ever can? They were so beautifully decorated!

We had a lovely Lisa from Tango and James just next to us with her gorgeous designs that were a huge hit in Handmade shop. These are the arm warmers that I got from her:

I also purchase Daisy doll kit from Lisa's (The red thread) Sweetie Petites collection. I am officially obsessed with Red ridding hood!

Today, I am planning on reorganizing my creative space. I always feel very inspired after a good clean up and I might even find some fabric stashed away that will get me crafting again tonight....

Have a great Sunday!

Little red riding hood....

I didn't have much time for the last few weeks to get ready for the Mathilda's market this Sunday so, with some of my stock traveling to the Handmade shop, this week will be very busy. More headbands, cross-stitched buttons and something new!

I made this red riding hood brooches last week. I first thought they will be just cross-stitched buttons, but Jennie's idea of using shepherd's crook to make a brooch from one of my buttons inspired me and I saw them looking very cute on the knitted cardigans or coats. These two are going to the Handmade shop this afternoon so I am going to make a few more this evening for the market.

If you haven't already, be sure to enter my "Macaroon" giveaway for your chance to win one of my macaroon buttons and some fabric! To enter for your chance to win pop over here.

back from Canberra!

We're back! I was exhausted on the day as we got up at 5am on the market day and drove in. So, I was tired but it was a really busy market and coffee didn't let me fall asleep.... Here are a few pictures of our stall (more pictures here).

New tree looked great with Corrie's beautiful crochet hats and hair ties.

I loved the Handmade market and we had a lovely conner spot, managed to fit everything in and even went around the market to meet other stallholders like Helen, Rochelle and Jennie!

During my brief run around I also managed to get some goodies!
Lovely ceramic brooch from Helen...

Coin purse, badges and a lovely and really thoughtful gift from Jennie....
Thanks Jennie! It was so nice to meet you in person!

Surely, I could not resist buying some fabric from Corrie! I am planning on making a set of matching pillowcases...

Now, I need some rest and get ready for the Allie's Attic market this Saturday!

Progress...

After a busy day in my creative corner, it's time to sum up and see what's left to do.....
- 4 skirts almost finished, 4 to go
- new button elastics (love the colours!) My new addiction - metal buttons, I still need to practice with getting the designs straight...

- I started to fill my glass jar up with yo-yo elastics.

- stitched a few appliques. I've been experimenting with background and stitched hedgehogs on pink and blue as well as natural linen.

So, it's been a busy and productive day!
Hope you're having a creative weekend so far!

Sunday stash and another market

In my Sunday Stash this week two fabulous fabrics that I've bought to make a skirt and a top for myself. I've never sewn anything for myself but hopefully I will find a good and super easy pattern that will stop me from waisting:
a meter of lovely fabric from Amy Butler's Love collection...

...and a beautiful Japanese linen.

Yesterday's market was quiet but as we took some crafts with us and found a BQ and a fairy floss machine it was not all too bad:) We still had a few sales and were flat out fixing the stall and picking things up as it was so windy!!!!
I woke up this morning even more exhausted that last night! How does that work?
So here are some pictures from our stall and I am back to stitching orders and trying to rest as tomorrow is another day at work.....

We had soft and beautifully coloured yarn from Celia that perfectly complemented the sewing needles.....

Have a great Sunday! and a friendly reminder that only a few two days left till the winner of my "All buttoned up" GIVEAWAY is announced! To enter leave a comment here.

New shiny packaging....

I really enjoy receiving mail! A few days ago I ordered a new packaging for my appliques and it arrived just on time for another market this Saturday. It's the Holy Family Art & Craft Show that I am really happy to be a part of as 20% of all sales will go to the charity!
(see Corrie's blog for details).

Last night I made a few more appliques adding a cute lamb and a rabbit in my collection. I find it really rewarding stitching animals especially as cute as those ones.

If you haven't already, be sure to enter my "All buttoned up" giveaway for your chance to win three of my cross-stitched buttons! To enter for your chance to win pop over here.

Making and packing for Mathilda's market

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments on my Creative space yesterday:) They definitely made my busy day at work more enjoyable!
Tonight, I will be finishing hair clips, appliques and headbands for Mathilda's market tomorrow. I think there are only a few last minute things left to do. I hope I will not have any last-night-before-market ideas as they usually lead to really late nights!

Here is a sneak preview of what I've already made:

My creative space.....

Today, in my creative corner, fluffy felt and colourful ribbons were transforming into flowers and bows! I also made a new packaging for my buttons and applique for
the Allie's Attic market on Saturday. It's not much time left but still quite a few things to finish....

It's my second market that I am going to participate in with the lovely Corrie, who is kindly inviting me along. I am really looking forward to Saturday as I always have so much fun at the markets:)

I made a few pictures for the market in February from one of the vintage fabrics. The drawing is just so detailed and so pretty! The one with two kids in the middle is my favorite!
