I don't sew much so I never really gave this topic much thought to be honest. I know what quality fabric feels like and always make sure it is 100% cotton and that's probably good enough for what I make.
However, as one of my new year resolutions is to make 3 pieces of handmade clothing for myself, I started researching more about sewing clothes and found this great website - Nicole's classes. The article that led me to this website is about choosing the right fabric for a sewing project, you can find it here.
I think I will start my handmade clothing adventure by making a simple top or a dress. I have a few issues of Burda Style and, after looking at their blog, I am getting more and more inspired to sew!
Do you sew your own clothes? Do you have any blogs/websites you would recommend?
Thanks for sharing this. Must admit I don't sew (though it's on my long list of things to learn) but when my Mum used to make me clothes - I pretty much choose the fabric based on 1 the look and 2nd the feel.
ReplyDeleteohh, what patterns are you look at trying? i'm excited to hear you venturing into clothing :) looking forward to seeing your first creation :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Nicole's Classes site and blog as well. Couldn't agree more about choosing the right fabric. I used to just go for the print and didn't pay much attention to the fabric type but now I always consider that first and worry about the print later!
ReplyDeleteMarina :)
I sew childrens clothing for my crafty business...BUT..have discovered while I certainly have a knack with fabric and colour selection on other people, including grown ups, when it comes to myself, I am hopeless. It is on my list this year to become better at this and face my clothing fears! I have a book by Colette Patterns I would highly recommend as a great read for choosing fabric and all the aspects of garment sewing! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone! I am very excited about learning new skills and wearing something that I made:)
