Crochet blanket order, progress

When I get an order for a crochet blanket, our green couch becomes a crochet station:) That is the only time I stop complaining that it is too big for our living room and actually enjoy the space! It easy to spread my squares on it and move them around so I can get the colours right.

I can see the progress and it makes me so eager to finish the whole blanket over the weekend! If only I could do that... There are many more squares to go but the colour pattern is there and it's the main thing!

A project for my home, NY "resolution"

Hold on you your chair, my lovely readers, I finally started a project for my own home! If you've been reading my blog for some time, you probably noticed that I hardly make anything for myself. Plushka takes so much of my time and I enjoy it so much that, until today, my home doesn't look like someone creative lives here.

Wait, you might say, there must be something! Nop, besides a few things that my mum made, there is nothing that I created to decorate our home - the place where I spend most of my time, and that's the embarrassing truth.

This year, I've got an intention, not a resolution, intention to make things for my home. I read here and I quote: "Resolutions are hard on a person, they set us up for feeling like failures when life gets complicated or our goals shift. Intentions however can be fluid and transform with us as we move forward. They are reminders to hold close throughout the year as we aim ourselves towards the place we wish to go".

Doesn't it sounds great! I am totally on board with this and made a decision - no resolutions for me this year:)

There are a few changes that I am making in my life but let's go back to the new project first....

The idea of this project started before Christmas. If you click on that link, you will see all the fabrics I was going to use for my bed runner. I wanted to finish it then but was too busy to even think about it. Today, I felt suddenly inspired.

I cut out squares:

Using two Ikea coffee tables, I am now trying to create some kind of a pattern. I still need to play with them a bit more, move around so I can avoid the repeats.

I am loving the look, the only thing I am a bit worried about is sewing different thickness fabrics together - linen and Liberty. I am going to quilt the bed runner by hand too.

Do you think it might be tricky? Do you have any tips?

"Autumn is coming", inspiration board

Autumn is my favourite time of the year! I love the colours, the cooler breeze and that I can start wearing bright coloured tights and scarves:) As I started working on the autumn collection a month ago, I really cannot wait for it to be here. I put a release date for the early Autumn collection - 26th of January. Yes, it's Australia day and Mr. Plushkin's birthday;) The sneak pick will be posted on 24th so stay tuned!

Inspired by a few businesses on Facebook, it's a first time I am holding back new items and releasing them at the same time! Usually, I would just list them as I create them. It worked well so far as I can see the feedback straight away and it guides my colour choices and stock quantity. This time, I am more nervous then ever but I thought I'll give it a try. The main advantage, in my opinion, is that the choice of different fabrics will be given to the customers straight away, the items will complete each other and fun photo styling session for me:)

I am always looking forward to my seasonal inspiration board update! {Click here to see the Spring/Christmas one}. It's always a sign of something new that is about to be created, inspiring and fun thing to do for an hour.

The colours that I've picked for the upcoming collection are reflected in the little cuts of fabric and other bits and pieces that I put together: orange, brown, warm and dark hues of pink, purple and yellow. Natural and organic fabrics, heavy linens and crochet.....

Cross-stitch and bookmarks

I loved crating these practical but pretty bookmarks! It's a little something that can be given to anyone.... Well, to anyone who still reads books, loves picking a new release of the favourite author in a bookshop and rushes home in anticipation of the few hours of an adventure. Who loves going to the library and, like me, searches Pinterest for a perfect reading nook......

They are made with screen-printed linens by my favourite Australian fabric designers like Yardage design, Umbrella prints and a recently discovered Danielle Stewart Design.

They will be listed in my Madeit and BigCartel shops shortly.

Bring on 2012!

After a few weeks of socializing, cooking with my new best friend in the kitchen - Thermomix, having a huge clean up and destash..... I am now ready to start another fabulous year with Plushka!

Yeah, I still crafted and created while on holidays but it's a different sort of creating. It's a "whatever I feel like" making and letting my inspiration guide the way. It's relaxing and uplifting, just what I needed after a busy Christmas.

The main new collection will be released in the end of the month but I promise a few sneak previews as I am very excited to show you what I've been up to! For now, here are a few new items from last year's collection, made just on time for the shop reopening.

There is a new addition to the key rings collection - cross-stitched elephant with a love heart!

I am also exploring some new ways to get my creations out there with Big Cartel shop. There were a few things that made me take on another shop on that needs my attention. It connects to the Facebook page so it's easier to find my shop from there which is such a great thing! I can save space by combining similar items in one listing and my customers do not need to register in order to purchase:) So, I couldn't resist to have a go and, hopefully, it will work for me.

I will be in my studio today, stitching a few more items together....

Christmas is almost here and I am in a very festive mood today getting the last things done.

Last year I've summed up my first year of Plushka's Craft in a collage and remember wondering what next year will bring... It tuned out to be an awesome year and I am delighted and surprised that I managed to do so much! Here is my attempt to sum up 2011...

Magazine features, custom orders, opening of the Plushka's Makery, memorable creations and new toys! It's been so much fun! The most important thing is that I've met so many wonderful people on the way who became my good friends and I am very grateful for that:)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my lovely followers and friends! Thank you for being a part of Plushka's journey in the creative world of Handmade!

Before the Christmas break....

Every year, before taking a well deserved break, I tidy up the studio to free the space from clutter and make it easier for the new creations make their way in to the studio! Last night I started with the fabric. Well, this is the most pleasant part of cleaning the creative space, in my opinion. Besides, finding out some wonderful fabrics that were long forgotten, it's a great way to see which prints will be perfect for the new toys I have in mind.

This morning, sewing table had a little makeover and cleaned from the felt fluff.

Next, I need to update my inspiration board. I already found a few fabrics and crochet to reflect a new collection and inspire me while I create. Last time it's been updated, it was Christmas inspired and I went with pink and white. This season is going to be more green, natural linen and earthy colours.....
I am looking forward to sharing a sneak pick with you after Christmas! It's so exciting! I love all the new creatures and I cannot wait for you to meet them.
Yes, there will be more then one;)

Semi-holiday and new issue of Mollie Makes

It's been a long time since I blogged last... I had a mission - finish all orders by today and I can proudly say, they are all done and posted! There are a few orders left awaiting payment but it feel so good to be on semi-holiday:) Coincidentally (or maybe universe knew I need a little "pat on the back"), the new issue of Mollie Makes arrived today. It includes a beautiful 2012 calendar which is perfect as I am planning my new collections and wholesale orders schedule for 2012 this week.

There are a few things to be done today like re-calcualting the postage prices, entering all the invoices, cleaning the studio and I need to work out a new pricing for my creations. However, with all that still to be done, I am so happy as finishing all Christmas customer orders is such an achievement for Plushka.

Plushka's Makery didn't get much of my attention lately with Christmas rush and orders... However, I do have some grand plans for the next year! I am starting with a little de-stash to free the shelves from all the fabrics that, in a year or more, haven't found it's project. It was hard but I managed to get a big bundle together that deserves a project and being used rather that being shuffled around and get stored for a year.....

Here are some of them and I try not to look at them again as I am very tempted to take some of them back!

Online magazine feature

Recently, with getting my ipad out and synchronized, I fell back in love with online magazines! I love reading Martha Stewart's issues and other online magazines I stumble on. My fairly recent find is a "Tickle the imagination" magazine that I discovered through Facebook. It's a lovely magazine that is all about creativity, handmade creations and uniting creative community.

I am thrilled to be featured in this divine magazine among so many talented people! You can find awesome mermaid party ideas, fabric kite DIY, summer fashion, interviews and other great articles. You can find an interview with me on the page 36;)

My creative space...

In my creative space today, I gathered a few of the personalized items I've been making recently. The customer orders are something that I really enjoy doing especially when they is a name to be embroidered or appliqued. This bunting was so much fun to make! It's a first bunting I ever made with letters on it. I picked green felt to go in contrast with very Christmasy red fabric and love the way it turned out!

The is a set of mini and large buntings with parents names on large flags and kid's names on mini flags. I think they will look so festive hanging together or on the opposite walls:)

This owl was made with one of my favourite fabrics by Saffron Craig. Beautiful pink with white and red dandelions, this pattern is very easy to embroider on so I didn't have to use linen for the belly. It's so pretty and girly! It's a second personalized owl created with this fabric and I think it will be very popular next year too.

It's been such a busy season for Plushka and her friends! We all spending more time in the creative space then outside at the moment so it's nice to take some time to "chat" about blogging and enjoy a little sunshine:) Please, welcome Nicole from Bubby Makes Three!

Why have you decided to start a blog?

After I had my daughter Fern almost three years ago, I needed

a creative outlet. I'd gone on maternity leave from my position in local government in marketing communications and felt at a career crossroads. Ive always loved writing, and saw it as a way to share my thoughts and finds with the world!

Is there a story behind the name of your blog?

Originally, Bubby Makes Three was a diary of my venture into new motherhood, so Bubby Makes Three it was! I wasn't to know that later it would become my business name too!

Have your blogging style changed since you've started?

I actually dont think my style has changed all that much -- Ive always written much like I speak, and find it hard to write seriously. I am almost always tongue-in-cheek which has sometimes gotten me in trouble! Over time my subject matter has probably changed but my style has remained true.

Do you think blogs are moving to the second place now since Facebook business/social pages are becoming more popular?

I think that the web has become saturated with blogs and that while they still have a place in the social media landscape there are just too many to keep track of these days, and I find it harder to keep up my motivation to try! I still love my blog though, and I like to have it bubbling away in the background waiting for me to come back to it when I can...

Do you have a blogging routine or any themes that you join?

These days I find it difficult to blog regularly, I am so busy with Bubby Makes Three as a business that my blog which was once my biggest creative passion has taken a bit of a backseat! I still like to write about motherhood -- the real motherhood, not the sugar coated kind. Thats where it all began! But theres a lof of crafty stuff on there these days, too!

What are your 5 most favourite blogs to visit and why?

Gosh, there are just so many good blogs out there these days that it is impossible to whittle them down to five! I have over 100 in my reader at any given time and am constantly adding to it!

Any tips for the bloggers who just started?

Be true to yourself and try not to get too caught up in the number of followers you do or don't have... write about what you know. Write from the heart. If you build it, they will come!

Flea market finds... Vintage fair

It is so much fun to browse vintage fairs with a friend and this morning I did just that! There were a few things that caught my eye and a couple of things that I brought home, like this cute ~~deer~~ calf and beautiful linen tablecloth with map of Australia and native flowers on it. It's just the way I like my linen - heavy with rough texture.

I liked the simple look and pretty pattern of this coffee jug. It is stainless steel and matches other items we've got in our kitchen.

Monday Inspiration: Christmas eye candy....

My last year's yo-yo wreath find really got me in the mood for Christmas with it's bright green colours and festive look. I thought I'll make it my little blog tradition and pick the wreath that I like this year. I love orange at the moment so when I saw it being included in the Christmas wreath, I thought this is the one!
For the past year, I learned to be braver with colours in my creations and changed my view on pink that I used more comfortably now with other colours. Remember my pincushions? Yes, I went a bit out of my comfort zone when following the fabric's colour scheme but I love the result:)
Anyhow, this pom-pom wreath is this year's winner and it's hard not to pick it with those crochet doilies on the background, awesome texture and sparkly "flowers"!

In my creative space, one wholesale order is finished! It's a great achievement for me as preparation process takes ages and just when you think that you will never finish those 10 robins, they appear on the table. Feels nice:) Don't mind the elephant, he really wanted to get in the picture before he goes to his new home.

Honestly, I am not surprised it took him only a few hours in the shop to find a new home as he is indeed one of my favourite elephants so far... I am very pleased I found this fabric with cute red apples. The minute I saw it, I could see the elephant with apples and had to make it!

There is also crochet blanket order that I am slowly finishing with wide boarder of red and pink. It have been a bit harder to crochet woolen blanket lately with hot summer days already here but I cannot wait to finish it as it will be the largest blanket (1m x 1m) I've ever made. It's very exciting to see how the colours in the boarder will work. I am going with wide stripes with brown in between....

Elephant and apples

I cannot find my elephant.

He must have run away.

He isn't on the sofa

where he promised he would stay.

I've looked around the living room,

the kitchen and the hall.

My elephant is missing

and I'm not sure who to call.

I'll need to get a bloodhound

who can track him by his scent,

or hire a house detective

to discover where he went.

He isn't in the basement

or the attic or the yard.

You'd think, to find an elephant

would not be quite so hard.

Perhaps I'll make some posters,

and I'll offer a reward.

I'd make it more, but fifty cents

is all I can afford.

If you should see my elephant,

he answers to "Jerome."

Please tell him that I miss him

and I wish he'd come back home.

He knows the way. It's up the street

and down our garden path.

And next time I won't warn him

when it's time to take his bath.

I would say this is the point in the production process when everything can only get better! The robins will start to emerge and all the side table, where I keep the finished items, will be full of loveliness!

With Christmas fast approaching, I am looking for gift wrapping ideas and found this one on Pinterest.

It linked to my, already favourite, A Spoonful of Sugar blog and I was surprised how did I managed to miss this post! This fabric gift pouch is so cute and can be made from the scraps of fabric which is always a great thing if you, like me, have buckets of them in the creative space:)
I think any gift will be a bit extra special in this!

I've been looking for some inspiration for a bed runner project that I am going to make this Christmas but didn't have much luck. I think I'll have to design a pattern myself. This means I'll stick to easy squares:) Probably, some linen cushions with hexagons to match will be made too...

Here is the fabric me and, my crafty friend Yana, put together last week. I am glad I had someone to help me as I had doubts about mixing flowers and geometrical print... However, looking at the picture now, I am happy with our choices!

This Liberty fabric on the top will be used for the bias and the bottom one for the lining.

Hopefully, I will start on it in December, after the shop is on the break:) Will definitely share my progress!

Sunday Stash...#46

My Sunday stash retunes after a relatively successful fabric diet that I've been on since July....Why relatively successful? Because I did buy some fabric in England, although it doesn't count, right? Anyway, my recent purchase from Spotlight was very small and well thought about.... I bought a few fabrics, one for a particular project that I will share with you tomorrow. These are just for the stash:)

My Place and Yours - My Favourite Piece of Clothing

Honestly, I've got many pieces of clothing in my wardrobe (some might say way too many) that I love but I tend to wear some of them over and over again as they are just too comfy and functional...
To try and break this cycle, last winter I committed to wearing skirts and dresses six days a week and really enjoyed my little self-imposed challenge.

In summer, I do love my capri shorts and linen pants so it will be a bit harder for me. However, I am pleased to say that this new dress that I bought from Anthropology shop in London will be my favourite piece of clothing this season!

It's a knee length, most of my dresses are, and I love navy and coral together! The fabric is soft but heavy so it hangs perfectly without clinging.

It might sound strange but every now and then I get all my stock out to re-photograph some items and see whether I need to make a few more toys/baskets/key rings to complete the collection. Sometime, it do it to repack the container with stock in order to fit more goodies in:) It's a fun task that inspire me to create new items or improve the existing product... Yep, I get inspired by my own creations, weird but true!

I really enjoy styling pictures if only I had a bit more time for it....

Sometimes I find things that I forgot about like these hair clips that are now back in my shop.

Things I am loving... in the end of October

* New issue of the Country Style magazine and new buttons.

*Choc chip, raisin and coconut cookies (recipe from here). I still need to practice a bit more and get them out on time:) However, it didn't spoil the taste and just made them a bit crunchy.

*Colour green - this fabrics are allocated to the "for my home" project that is long overdue but I am determined to get it done by Christmas... I wonder if that geometrical print will go with flowery fabric in patchwork style bed runner?

My creative space this week can be easily described in a short sentence: Three owls and a new Christmas decoration!

I cannot wait to see these owls ready! These two are going to be a set for a yet to be born baby and I am loving the colours we've picked. Please, don't mind the mess around them, it's part of the fun;)

Dark navy owl requires a bit more attention today as it still needs eyes to be stitched on so I am concentrating on finishing it today.

Allera is a personalized owl that most likely to be finished today and will go in the post soon. I will miss her though, she is turning out to be a very pretty one.

There is also Christmas decoration that just "happened" this morning.... I didn't realized that I had perfect "ingredients" for this Christmas pudding laying around. Like this hand-dyed brown felt which, with it's slightly uneven colour and fluffiness of woolen texture, gives it great cake look.

It will be available in my Madeit shop shortly.

This pincushion has been helping me to create for 3 years now... Made by my mum, from plastic jar lid and the strawberry embroidery that I cross-stitched more then 10 years ago!

It's very sweet and makes me smile every time I look at it:)

There are so many exciting projects to do and these cute mice by Martha Stewart are so inspiring!

I am working today in my studio on more Christmas decorations, enjoying the warm weather, doing some much needed cleaning up and unpacking.... Yep, it's been a week since we are back and one suitcase is still standing near the door.

There were too many more exciting things to do;)

Flea market finds... Camden market, London

Hope you had a great week!
I am still trying to settle back in and it feels that being in London just a week ago was not real... I look at the pictures often and I think I already miss that place.
It was so much fun!
During our first week there, we stayed a few days in the city and one day jumped on a tube to visit local market. I was told to expect something unusual and quirky and so it was! I've never seen such an unusual space to hold a market before - old horse stables:)

We arrived there very early, way before the opening to get a chance to have a good look around and take pictures as it gets so busy, it's hard to even stop and stare at something gorgeous like this shandelier!

Shopping at that market was an experience on itself, just walking around made me so excited about what I will actually might find there when it opens!

We found so much vintage and quirky things that day but, unfortunately, not many of them I could take on a plane so I just picked a few little keepsake size goodies.

First, I had fun browsing through 4 draws of vintage buttons and here are my finds. I especially like that large blue sparkly button.

Then, I saw vintage clothing store where I found this great vintage leather clutch (in my favourite brown colour) and a few scarves. That brownish one matches the clutch perfectly and I love the folklore style flowers!

I really wish I could bring a few more things that I saw their but maybe next time...

Felt frog by Plushka in Homespun magazine

It's been a long time since I've made a little frog pattern for the Homespun magazine so what a great feeling that was when we just arrived home from the airport, exhausted and dragging heavy suitcases to the door, and found this issue in my mailbox! I totally forgot about the long flight, the huge queue at the airport, customs and unpacking to be done...

This issue is full of interesting projects including quilts, dolls, dresses and hair accessories:)

In my creative space this week, I am catching up on orders and making a few new things like these elephants that were almost ready before I left for holidays and just needed a few more hours of stitching and stuffing. I love this fabric by Rashida Coleman and used it before on my pincushions here.

This fabric with polka dots have been in my stash for ages and I was very pleased to finally find a use for it. I was surprised that it matched this felt but it did and I love the way it looks on the elephant!

Part 3: Where I shopped and what I bought...

I should admit, I was nervous when Mr. Plushkin said: Today we are going to Liberty of London shop! It's been my dream to see this fascinating building and walk through all 4 levels of prettiness.....
The building is as stunning in life as on the picture! I was so overwhelmed when I came in and saw all the rolls of fabric and craft supplies that after a half an hour of walking around oohing and aahing, I decided to go home and think which fabric I need the most as it's just SO much of it there!

We came back a week later and here is my little bundle that I just love!

In Bath, we found a few craft shops tucked away in little streets like this one "Country Threads" that is a lovely shop with some great fabrics to choose from.

I had fun browsing through their sale basket and Christmas fabric collection. There were also so many ribbons that it was very hard to choose so I stopped on this one with hearts.

Cath Kidston store in Bath is a great one to walk around with so many great items in her signature flowery pattern. I picked some oil cloth with polka dots and those buttons are too cute to use so I'll keep them for now:)

On the last day of our journey, we found great shop called Tikki Patchwork in Kew Gardens, West London. I didn't take the picture of it but here is a link to their website if you ever in this area it's worth visiting it! I bought some fabrics with my new elephants in mind:)

Lovely city of Bath, that is just picture perfect! We walked around enjoying a little cloudy and cool weather, great views, pretty flower hanging baskets and quirky buildings with doors that you need to duck when walking in:)

London adventure...part 1

From stunning architecture to little flower baskets on the windows, London captured my heart. It feels good to be home but I already miss the busy city, beautiful Bath area, little villages that we've visited while driving around and exploring that beautiful country. We were lucky to have warm and sunny weather most of the time that we could walk around and enjoy the stunning English scenery.

These are only a few pictures but they are my favourite as they capture my journey well. There are so many people that cycle everywhere and I couldn't resist taking that picture with lovely autumn coloured wall. Vintage markets were such a delightful thrifting adventure and I found a few great craft shops;)

Why have you decide to start a blog?

I really enjoyed reading other crafty blogs so I thought it would be fun to start my own. It’s a great way to share what I’m up to with friends and family.

Is there a story behind the name of your blog?

The name ‘three kittens’ comes from my madeit shop name. All my children were born early and were very small for their dates, like little kittens. I find it catchy and easy to remember, not to mention easy to pronounce and spell. Keeping the same or similar names across your shop, facebook page and blog makes it easier for people to find you.

Have your blogging style changed since you've started?

I have been trying to keep my blog posts fairly short and sweet and always include photos. I’m not very computer savvy but I’ve learnt how to link to other sites recently otherwise I don’t think it’s changed too much. I would like to start including more how to’s, tips and tutorials in the future.

Do you think blogs are moving to the second place now since Facebook business/social pages are becoming more popular?

Yes I do. Facebook is very user friendly and it’s easy to leave comments which you can be notified of. Many people seem to be reluctant to leave comments on blogs, I’m not really sure why though!? I think there will always be a place for blogs though. There is something peaceful about blogland as opposed to the ever changing and updating fast paced world of Facebook.

Do you have a blogging routine or any themes that you join?

I don’t have a routine at all, maybe I should get one! I used to blog fairly regularly but I’m extremely busy with my children and my sewing so it’s hard to have the time just to sit down and write these days. I should make more effort though.

What are your 5 most favourite blogs to visit and why?

I love The Pioneer Woman Cooks because I enjoy cooking, her photos are gorgeous and her blog is easy to read. Very Purple Person because she makes the most divine dresses and everything she makes just turns out so well. My Poppet has some great how-to’s and tutorials. Oh, Frannson! is a gorgeous blog for the quilters and wanna-be quilters (that’s me) and lastly I have to say Plushka’s craft because it’s all so stylish and we share the same tastes in fabric and pretty things in general.

Any tips for the bloggers who just started?

Large blocks of text can be a bit off putting so break it up with gorgeous photos. Double check your spelling and grammar. Be yourself and try not to be discouraged by lack of comments or followers.

Trying to start packing for, as google informed me, 22C in London next week. Totally failing as I decided to limit my wardrobe to 2 outfits and, as you probably guessed, it's almost impossible!

My first swap - flags for a bunting

Making bunting is so much fun! I get to work with all those lovely fabrics in my stash and use my sewing machine more, so when I found out that there is a Bunting swap, I signed up immediately!

I signed up to make 5 individual flags that need to be send to 5 different people. I have so many ideas! For a long time I've been thinking about making something different with my buntings. Although I like combining different fabrics together, I feel that there is something more I can do.... So, this is my chance to experiment and try to create that Plushka's style bunting I've been wishing for:)

Between orders, packing for London, making flags for a bunting swap (yes, I signed up for my first swap. More details tomorrow;), organizing everything at work, tiding up my Madeit shop before I go etc etc etc...

I am loving that there is still time in a day to take a few cute pictures of my robins from Christmas collection:

There is always time for a good book to read, especially if it is as nicely made and as creative as a book by Dottie Angel that was my first purchase from the adorable Lark shop.

Finally, there is always time, usually late in the evening, for a little cross-stitch.

In my creative space, I am trying to finish all the orders, pack, write a to-do and to-visit lists while we are in London (still cannot believe I am going there!!!) and doing my best not to get distracted by the new felt that just arrived...

I am loving the colour red at the moment, mainly due to so many Christmas items around me, so here are my latest creations in red:

This Christmas decoration is one of my favourites and the most popular item so far in my collection. I love red and white combo and was very lucky to snap the last red ribbon with white stitching in the shop so I took it as a sign that I have to make a a few of them:)

This red basket was specially created with Christmas collection in mind a while ago. I also have green ones but have to look for a matching Liberty fabric to decorate it with.

I am very pleased that this year the Christmas collection is ready early and I just have a few things to add to the range and cannot wait to officially release it in mid October!

Don't you love it when in the beginning of the week, something lovely lands in your mail box?! It set the mood for a week and gives something to read/smile at/cuddle/create from during the week.

My happy mail today included new issue of the Mollie Makes magazine!

Yes, it did cost me a little fortune to subscribe and I still need to hunt down first 4 issues while in UK....but I absolutely love this magazine with minimum advertisement and so many inspiring projects:)

Who doesn't need a little hungry felt hamster in the house? I do:)

The "organized" mess...

That's what my table looks like in the middle of stock building and orders completing exercise! It's not always pretty and organized but at least I know where everything is. The only thing I don't like about cleaning my craft table, I have to spend at least half an hour after that getting everything out again before I can create.... All the ribbons, buttons, beads and scraps have to be around me where I can see them:)

So, today, I am here, in my lovely space. The breeze is coming in from the balcony and it's nice a quite Friday so far outside.... The Christmas collection is almost finish and I will blog about it soon but you can get a preview on my Facebook page:)

At the moment, if you want to get into my creative space, watch your steps for bundles of fabric, 5kg of toy stuffing and other bits and bobs on the floor! The only place that left organized is my table as it has to be for me to stay focused. I started this morning with a new item - red mitten decoration....

Seeing them hanging and ready to go is very inspiring!

However, there are still more to be made....

Yes, London! I finally can start getting all excited planning my trip as all bureaucratic formalities are sorted out:) I am beyond happy that I get to visit Mr. Plushkin's family, walk around gorgeous city where he grew up and, of cause, visit house of Liberty!

It's our first long-ish holiday together and I cannot wait:) We are leaving in a few weeks so I'd better start planning and packing for, as I was told, rainy weather.

In my creative space, I've updated the inspiration board for Spring with a pink & Christmas theme...

The little yellow piece of felt is a little hint on my new toy I am in the process of drawing;)

The work continues on the Christmas collection so stay tuned for a little preview soon!

I love the idea of crochet covered stones - very pretty and decorative. One more project on my list:)

One-off crochet basket in lovely blue colour has been waiting for me to pick the fabric and I intend to stick with this combo of Liberty with tiny flowers and hand-printed linen by Thea&Sami. What do you think?

Why have you decided to start a blog?

I was (and still am) a stay at home mum and I had been making cards for about 5 years. I often looked at other card makers blogs, both for inspiration, and to communicate with other like minded crafty folk. After about a year of blog stalking, I thought it would be a nice way to immerse myself in this crafty community by actually participating and starting my own blog. It started as a way to show my cards to the world and hopefully get a little feedback along the way.

Is there a story behind the name of your blog?
I had initially called my blog Kathy’s Kreations, which I was never happy with. As people started to comment on my designs, they often referred to me as a CAS artist – Clean and Simple – I then found myself referring to my own designs as Sweet and Simple, and then the ‘to a tee’ came into it (which is a term I use often in my neck of the woods), and the name change to Sweet Simplicitee just kind of fit.

Have your blogging style changed since you've started?

I think so, but only in little ways. I initially just posted about card making, and was very open about the products and techniques I was using. Now, as my online stores grow in popularity, I am a little more guarded with things like product details, as, unfortunately, with the internet, it is just a little too easy for others to copy your designs. I was also very worried about security for my family in the beginning, but now I do the odd post about my ‘other life’, they play the biggest part after all, and support and inspire me every day, so why not share a moment here and there. I have always kept the ‘wordy’ part of my blog posts relatively short and sweet, which is odd, as I do love to write. I think that my shyness still holds me back from being too open in my posting.

Do you think blogs are moving to the second place now since Facebook business/social pages are becoming more popular?

Definitely. I have always been against Facebook, I don’t know why, I was just never a fan, but I have jumped on the bandwagon now and created a page for Sweet Simplicitee. I have found now that I rarely get comments on my blog, it seems easier for followers to simply hit a like button or post a quick comment on Facebook, then move onto the next page. I do get a little disheartened by the lack of response on the blog nowadays, but have come to the realisation that my blog is a place for my expression, people are still visiting, and the fact that they don’t leave any blog love anymore is simply a reflection of the pace in which our society moves these days.

Do you have a blogging routine or any themes that you join?

Not really. I try and post a least a couple of times a week. I have just started creating Treasuries, so I am trying to do one of these each week, but they are not on any set days. I have found it hard to lock anything too regular in, as things always pop up, and the routine changes with every curve ball thrown my way.

What are your 5 most favourite blogs to visit and why?

http://clarescraftroom.blogspot.com/ - I love Clare’s posts. She says it how it is and always gives me a giggle with my cup of coffee.

http://elizabethkartchner.blogspot.com/ -This is just one of those blogs that is simply cool. Gorgeous photos, cute kids, funny couple, beautiful crafty ideas, I just love it. Great for a laugh when the hubby hijacks the blog, too.

http://monpetitpoppet.blogspot.com/ - I used to teach with this dear girl, so it’s nice to be able to check into the blog of someone who I actually do know.... like in real life! Steph’s posts are beautiful to read, and she is a sewing marvel to boot.

http://tulapink.com/ - I love this girl’s fabric designs, and she is rather funny too. I enjoy checking in each week and reading through her witty posts.

http://www.kwernerdesign.com/blog/ - Kristina’s blog has been my most favourite cardmaking blog for as long as I have been cruising the blogosphere. I simply love her style and her photos are awesome.

Any tips for the bloggers who just started?

Just have fun with it. Be yourself, post about what you are comfortable with and stay true to your own style.

Weekend baking: Rosemary and grape rolls

I am far from an expert baker or cook so I am always on the look out for an easy recipe, especially the ones with wholemeal flour that I like. I usually cut recipes out from the magazines and keep them in my recipe book. It makes it easier when I plan meals as I can just put them together without writing the page numbers etc. down that I have to do with books (thanks to my friend's tip I never search for the lost recipe again;)

This weekend I decided to bake something that we can have as a savory snack at work. These rosemary and grape rolls are very quick to bake but do need some preparation time. Recipe is from Good Taste magazine May issue 2009.

250gr (1 and 2/3 cups) plain bread flour - I've used spelt flour

240gr (1 and 1/2 cups) wholemeal flour

300ml warm water

1 tsp honey

1 sachet (7g) dried yeast

60ml (1/4 cup) olive oil

2 tsp sea salt

olive oil, to grease

12 small springs rosemary

12 red grapes - will use more next time as they are just so yummy:)

1. Sift combined flour in a bowl. Return husks to the flour.

2. Transfer 1/4 of the flour mixture to a medium bowl. Add water and honey. Whisk to combine. Sprinkle with the yeast. Whisk to combine. Set aside in a warm place for 10 min or until foamy.

3. Add the oil and salt to the flour mixture.

Make a well in the center. Pour in the yeast mixture. Use your hands to bring the dough together in the bowl. Transfer to a lightly floured surface. Knead for 10 min or until smooth and elastic. Brush a large bowl with oil to lightly grease. Place the dough in the bowl. Cover with a tea tower and set aside in a warm place to prove for 1 hour or until double in size.

4. pre-heat oven to 220C. Brush baking tray with oil to lightly grease. Punch down the center of the dough with you fist. Divide into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball. Place ball, side-by-side, on the greased tray. Cover the dough with a clean towel. Set aside for 30min.

5. Use your thumb to make dimples in the dough. Press rosemary and grapes into the dimples. Brush with oil.

Bake for 10min. Reduce oven temperature to 190C. Bake for 12-15 min or until golden.
Cool them down for a few minutes and ENJOY!

I am lucky I've got mainly guys at work and they are willing to try anything I bake:)
So far they loved my baking and I've got a few more recipes to try next week.

Friday Afternoon

I took a little break from cooking, laundry, stitching rabbits...

to enjoy flipping through pages of the new Spring issue of Country Style magazine. It is full of stunning pictures, as usual, and very interesting articles about australian artists and their homes. I think it's time to spend a few hours with my journal, arranging Spring pages using pictures from this issue.

Besides something good to read, a short afternoon break at Plushka's HQ means a cup of Chai tea and something sweet. Today, I am having a few yummy fruit balls (click for the recipe here).

I am also admiring my new labels that just arrived in the post. Not sure yet whether I will use them on all my creations or not but I absolutely love the colours and quality (Labels made by Bags&Tags).

The little makeup purse on the background came free with the magazine and it's just so pretty! What a lovely bonus:)

In my creative space this week, it's ll about StumpyFeet family:) We've got three new members that just joined us this morning.

I love this fabric by Monica Lee called "Now We're Going Places" not only for the cutest scooters and pretty colours but also because it reminds me of Spring when the days get warmer and we take our little scooter for a ride first time after Winter!

I love polka dots, especially when they have a quirky shape! Likely I had a green felt to match this lovely fabric so I didn't have any choice but make an elephant with it;)

After 4 different sketches, one prototype elephant and many hours of staring at the drawing.... I knew how I want the elephants to look like and what I need to do to fix their little feet problem - I just couldn't figure out where should the feet be placed to look right. I am very happy with they result though and they totally worth the time I spend!

Hope you had a great week and maybe found an hour or two to visit your local shop or a market... I haven't been able to find any free time this week but I did browse my favourite online vintage shop - Vintage by Lou Lou .

I love this trio with pretty garden flowers that reminded me that Spring is not that far away! I always look for a gold boarder on the saucers so they match the other sets that I've got. Although, they all have different patterns, it somehow unites them.

This egg holder already found it's place in the kitchen and I like it's simple country style. I am now looking for a milk jar or bottle to compliment it.

Weekend project planning...

Today, I decided that it's time to write a list of projects to make for myself, home and friends. It's been too long since I made something for a house and organized me, who just loves lists and planning, demanded a projects list:) I had a look at my books for some helpful tutorials and tips. So far I found 4 that I am going to use:

1. "Chic on a Shoestring" by Mary Jane Baxter: I found a few projects there to make for myself. I like the idea of recycling one of Mr Plushkin's ties to make a cute wallet, using vintage lace to decorate my old jumper etc... I will definitely share all those projects with you so stay tuned!

2. "In stitches" by Amy Butler: There are some great projects for the bathroom and kitchen that I like. They are very easy and I can use my Amy Butler's fabrics too.

3. "Home Sewn- 30 projects for every room in the house" by Kaari Meng: Great book that inspire and as I love French country style, I've picked a travel bag and basket liners projects that look like very simple and easy to make.

4. "Applique Your Way - 35 pretty Sewing projects and patterns" by Kayte Jerry: Love, love, love this book! Just too many projects to list! Appliques on skirts, coasters, felt decorations.... I cannot wait to start on these ones:)

I will make a tie wallet and bed runner first as I planned on making them for ages. Hopefully, getting a project list together will help me to get through them faster without getting sidetracked. Although, I doubt it;)

Things I am loving...the end of August

*Lovely gift from a creative friend who inspired me to organize my threads, buttons and now needles too:)

Friend who knows I love cute toadstools and who found time to make this needle case for me. Thank you!

*My fabric stash that inspires me to be creative.

*Making Christmas decorations in August.

*Getting a new idea in the middle of a busy day when I need to finish orders. It distract me but brings a huge amount of joy! This new toy - pink elephant named Maya, still needs a little bit more work but I am very happy with the face expression and ears:)

In my creative space this week, I make toys in multiples! When I started on this order, I thought it will slow me down that I have to make a few toys with the same fabric but it actually doesn't bother me at all! The principle of treating each and one of them as an "individual" and not a number works great here:)

To me, they are all distinct with their own personalities.

The print on this cute fabric by Saffron Craig helps a lot when I make toys as this rabbits look different just by having a different colour bugs on their belly:)

This week I also finished:

*cross-stitched key rings with squirrels

*one more notebook for the shop

*another bias for Plushka's Makery

When I am very busy with orders, I like having regular 'themed' posts. They keep me organized and searching for the new ideas and inspirations which really get me creative juices going.

I also get to take lot of pictures which I love! "It's too organized" I hear you say, but although I love sharing inspirations and new creations as they happen, these themes are a great structure:) Besides, isn't it the best way to find new blogs to follow?! Every time I find a new blog, I spend some time drooling page after page...

In my creative space this week, I've been doing a "ground work" for my owls, penguins and rabbits - cutting shapes out, stitching small parts on etc... Now, when all the hard work is done, stitching them together and stuffing is the best part:) I see the progress and it's is so rewarding! Large orders like this need a lot of "preparation" hours but when it's done, toys come off the production line very fast!

This cute fabric with sailors is my favourite. Unfortunately, I cannot find this fabric anywhere and it will be very sad when is all gone!

These girls make me smile:) I love this fabric with little roses and tiny butterflies.

I also had some time for cross-stitch (although not as much as I wish I had). There are a few more key rings that need to be finished and this one inspires me to find more hours in a day just so I can make a few more!

progress in "baby steps"

Sometimes, when there are countless projects going on at the same time, there is nothing better then stopping for a moment to reflect on what is done and what is still on that list...

It helps me to stay motivated:)

So, when I feel like nothing get's done here, I start taking pictures!

Owls in progress - bellies and eyes stitched on, feet next.

Christmas flags for the bunting are ironed but need more bias.

One cross-stitched hedgehog notebook is done and listed in the shop.

Hmmm, not too bad... Moving towards wholesale order and Christmas collection completion deadlines in "baby steps" but steady!

Loving my buttons collection

I've started this month with re-organising my embroidery threads...
I should say my creative life became so much easier after that with colours that are easy to find! I felt very inspired and done the same with my buttons.

I love my buttons and after getting them all in one box, it's so much easier to see the colours and it's obvious - I still have room for more;)

After looking at all of them together, I felt like creating something with them.... One of my Christmas items is inspired by all those colourful "candies". Stay tuned!

While at work....

Sunny but cold Sydney morning... It's going to be a busy day and I am really looking forward to it:) I wrote down a list of things to do for today and it does look a bit overwhelming so I'd better get started on those entries and reconciliations!

I'll definitely take a break after lunch to do some bird watching though! In the afternoon, when it already warm enough to come out and pick some seeds from the grass, you can see all kind of birds here - little bright green, red and yellow parrots, cute pigeons and magpies. I usually feed them some bread and I like that they are getting used to it so I can admire them a bit closer:)

Crochet hooks wrap

I just LOVE crochet and very fussy about my crochet hooks. I like the bamboo ones as they are easy to work with but dropping them too often is not a good idea and I lost quite a few of them while traveling. So this roll was created to keep them all tucked in and safe:) It is also very pretty which is not less important!

They are a part of the "For your creative space from Plushka" collection so they match perfectly with pincushions;)

There is a felt strip to keep them separated and prevent them from sliding out, as well as flap to make sure they are all wrapped up in soft felt and fabric.

There are a few crochet hooks wraps in my shop if you would like one for yourself or as a gift for someone who loves to crochet!
